The brickwork started on 10/05/2013, some of the cladding, eaves and insulation was installed during the week starting 13/05/2013.

Have to love the weather in Queensland.

We went to the outdoor living and landscape expo on 18/05/2013 to get some ideas for finishing the steps to our backyard (and potentially pool) area. We managed to line up a few quotes which will be done in the next couple of weeks.

Our neighbour on the one side signed a fence (on top of retaining wall) height relaxation on 18/05/2013. That is really great news for us as it saves us time and money in not having to get the council to assess the requirement for the fence.

Roof, Plumbing, Electrical Wiring, Air-conditioning ducting, Windows and Doors.

I’ve been away on a couple of trips and have not had a chance to post an update.

A lot has happened in the past 3 weeks.

Plumbing was started on Saturday 04/05/2013.

Roofing was done in the week starting 06/05/2013. The roof colour is the same as the fascia and guttering i.e. colorbond surfmist. We chose a modern sloping surface (skillion) for our roof. The reason for going all surfmist for the colour is three-fold 1. helps to blend the roof into the environment, 2. better energy rating and 3. adds a modern element.

Windows, stacker and bi-fold doors were also installed during the same week.

Bedroom 5, which will probably be used for either a home gym or guest bedroom – as there is an ensuite bathroom (not referring to the portaloo in the reflection) front window. This window will have brick and render around it as a feature of the facade.

Meetings, Fascia, Gutters and Solar Power

This week we met with the air-conditioning contractor to discuss the placement of the thermostat and outdoor unit.

We also met the alarm system contractor to decide on the placement of the motion detectors and the keypad. The television (8) and data points (3) will also likely be done by this contractor as the builders’ regular electrician is not available and the new electrician does not really do this type of work. We will most likely add foxtel cable television, 1x additional television point, and cable provisioning for a future intercom system.

And we also met the new electrician onsite to walk through and mark the location of down lights, power points, etc. The new electrician was really knowledgeable and efficient. a walkthrough to decide on electrical is highly recommended – we managed to significantly cut down on the anticipated number of required down lights.

And we also met the solar power contractor onsite to decide on the placement of the solar panels (rear, north facing roof) and inverter (wall mounted in the garage, close to the future electrical switch box). The contractor laid the cables between the inverter and panel positions on 02/05/2013.

The majority of fascia and gutters were installed on 02/05/2013.
