The cornices were installed in the week starting 27/05/2013. Cannot believe dusty, regular, stock-standard, unpainted, cove cornices manages to bring about some excitement…pretty sure we will look at this blog in time to come thinking ‘man we needed a life back then’ – but that is just the house building process I guess, all-attention-consuming for an extended period.
In this website we are going to record the process of building our new family house and some random projects along the way.

Electrical
We got our light fittings at Beacon lighting (where the block shops :)) on Sunday (26/05/2013). We won’t need them for another month, but we wanted to make use of the winter sale (30% off a second light).
The main choices are below:
Staircase.
Kitchen pendants.
Living areas (family, dining, media and kids zone)
Bedrooms. Altitude Eco 122cm LED in white.
Up/Down Lights. Garage and either side of Bi-fold door.
Either side of dining room stacker door and in key areas around house, including in laundry area (with a sensor eye).

External Progress, Weatherboard Colour and Drywall
We had a nice surprise on Friday (24/05/2013). The carpenters were back on site to install more weatherboard!
The solar hot water guys also installed their panels on Friday…a particularly overcast day – lolz. I believe it will be a, ’pump-circulated’ system, with the storage tank being ground-mounted (close to our laundry) and below the level of the collectors; a circulating pump moves water (or heat transfer fluid) between the tank and the collectors.
The entire house now has drywall installed as well.
Media room with bulkhead.
Hallway to front door.
Kitchen, pantry, fridge space, etc.
Dining room.
The roof was also fixed on Friday, as can be seen in the photo below. The suspense of waiting to see if our colour scheme works has become unbearable difficult to ignore…so, on Sunday we painted a piece of discarded scyon. The colour is half shale grey. We think it goes nicely with the surfmist.
It should work with the anodic natural matt window and door frames as well.

More Drywall and Electrical
Exterior progress has come to a halt as the carpenter crew had to start a new house this week. The scaffolding has been up for the last week or so. We’re hoping that this does not affect the total length of time that we need the scaffolding for as it is a provisional item in our contract.
Some internal progress has been made though.
We’re hoping that this issue with the roof will be fixed before we get too much rain.
Electrical
We’re in the process of finalising our electrical fittings. We have some down lights in the contract and a provisional item for ceiling fans (which also needs to include the fittings for the down lights – this was a misunderstanding on my part, I assumed that down lights in the contract would include the wire and the fitting. The impact of this is that we’re a little more restricted in the budget that we anticipated to be available for extra pendants, step lights, etc.).
We’re working with the electrician to add the following items:

Have to love the weather in Queensland.
We went to the outdoor living and landscape expo on 18/05/2013 to get some ideas for finishing the steps to our backyard (and potentially pool) area. We managed to line up a few quotes which will be done in the next couple of weeks.
Our neighbour on the one side signed a fence (on top of retaining wall) height relaxation on 18/05/2013. That is really great news for us as it saves us time and money in not having to get the council to assess the requirement for the fence.
More linea on Saturday 18/05/2013.
